San Francisco, CA

About Rabia

Rabia is a self-proclaimed "citizen of the world". She loves to travel, enjoys fine food, and adventurous activities. She is currently putting her business skills to use at a top tech firm in the silicon valley.

About Kuy

Kuy was born in Canada and grew up in Britain and the United States. He has been an engineer since a very young age and after studying engineering at university worked for several startups (some his own.) He loves photography and building things.

About The Venue

The Julia Morgan Ballroom is perched on the 15th floor of the historic Merchant's Exchange Building at 465 California St. in downtown San Francisco. It is the only building of the area which survived the legendary earthquake and fires in 1906.

The Proposal

Kuy proposed to Rabia on a scuba dive, 60 feet (20m) underwater in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The Julia Morgan Ballroom

Located at the intersection of California and Montgomery streets in San Francisco's financial district, the Julia Morgan Ballroom is named in honor of architect Julia Morgan, known for Hearst Castle and other fine buildings in Northern California. Ms. Morgan was also the first woman architect licensed in the state.

Questions & Answers

Answers to your questions about travel, the reception and your trip to San Francisco.

Should I rent a car after flying to San Francisco?

We would not recommend it unless you wish to drive outside the city, e.g. to the East Bay (e.g. Dublin, Pleasanton) or the North Bay (e.g. Sonoma, Napa.) The Lyft and Uber taxi-app services and the BART (subway) can get you anywhere you need to go in San Francisco.

Are there good alternatives to San Francisco's downtown hotels?

You could stay at an Airbnb property instead, if you prefer.

Do you have a wedding gift registry?

Yes, we have a gift registry at Macys.com.

I have special dietary restrictions, food allergies and/or other limitations. Who do I work with?

Tell us about it on the RSVP form or directly. Accounting for food restrictions and making your experience enjoyable is our top priority!

Is there a dress code?

The event will be formal-attire/black-tie optional - but the most important thing is that you come comfortably and ready to celebrate!

Did Kuy propose with a prop/dummy ring underwater?

It was the real ring and real diamond. He later learned that some dive proposals used stand-in rings in case they got lost.
